In-between The Pages

Recently I had the honor to read “Not a walk in the park.” By Alice Almei. Alice is a bright personality on twitter, and someone I’ve admired. She has an incredible spirit, and is always uplifting others. So when I got an opportunity to have a chance to read her writing I was so excited, but unsure what to expect. I love the fact that it starts with trigger warnings. Though this book is not graphic, it definitely can trigger many emotions. I started reading, and the first thing that hit me is the writing style. Clean, short, but with each word there is so much information and brings a reader deeper into thought. Each poem is Captivating and takes you step by step into the life journey. You get a chance to see the raw emotions, thoughts, and struggles. I struggle with Bipolar 2, and for me reading these experiences reminded me so much of my own. It brought out empathy, because I have walked in those very same shoes. I rarely ever get emotional reading people’s work, but this is the first time in a very long time I found myself having tears. Some because of the struggles, but also the underlying messages that there is something many of us lose sight of Hope. Hope for a better day, a better tomorrow, hope that we can truly be accepted one day for who we are. Would I recommend this to someone? Absolutely. Because I truly think that work like this can truly make an impact and possibly save people’s lives. I do look forward to reading future work from this author.
