He seemed to be everything that she wanted, and she held her breathe messaging Hi. He texted her back, and it didn’t take long before they both decided they needed to talk off the app. She couldn’t handle trying to scroll through the messages, and he was excited to be able to talk more.
She texted him her number, and it didn’t take long before his number popped up on phone calling her. She bit her lip, made sure she was alone, and seconds before the call goes to voicemail she picks it up. The moment he speaks her heart starts fluttering, and she forgets about any of the other people she was talking to.
Hours go by and the two talk about everything from what they want to the things they are interested in. For two people who just met it felt like they known each other forever. The chemistry was intoxicating and she didn’t want it to end. With two hours into conversation his daughter needed attention, and like two teenagers they decided to call later in the evening.
The two both been through relationships where neither felt seen or appreciated. The two had so much in common, and would talk and giggle all through the night. Everything was going amazing, and she didn’t want it to end.
“How far are you from here?” He says smoothly, and her heart started fluttering.
Hailey hated this part of the dating app process. See she did incredible over the phone, but she knows that the moment they meet in the person that he will be gone. There was a small piece of her heart that wanted to say no, because she didn’t want to lose the incredible connection they were forming.
They giggled going through google maps, and seeing the house he lived in. Eventually he was going to want to meet her, and for once she had faith that things were going to go well. She looked at her phone, and saw she had an interview tonight for her podcast. Maybe it’ll be something fun for them to do together?
“Sushi and riverfront?” Hailey asked shyly.
“I’ll get showered and be on my way!” He hops off the phone, and as much as she is excited the little voice in her head reminds her not to get too excited.
She pulls out two dresses, and she kept help but find herself gushing. She couldn’t believe she had a date with someone so incredible. She tries on the white dress which screams innocent but adorable. She twirls around in it, but it doesn’t fully feel right. Hailey throws her shoes on, hops into her car. And notices her gas is low.
“Shit…” she sighs feeling like she can’t catch a break. She drives to Wasabi as she keeps taking on and off her hat unsure which would be better. Hailey wants so bad for things to be perfect, but she always knows better. He is going to see her in person, he’s going have the face of disappointment, and she’s going to home wishing she had just kept things to phone call giggles and fun.
Making her way over to the gas station she calls her date chat before they meet. She decides to sneak into the bathroom, and switch into a more slimming back dress. She is not the skinniest person, and no where near looking like the super model some of her pictures did. Hailey let out a sigh wishing more than anything she looked as beautiful as the other girls.
Knowing this will be her first best date as starts make her way out the gas station door. The dress starts to pull up, and she slips some shorts underneath. Driving over to the Wasabi restaurant he lets her know that he’s going in to get them a table. She giggles a bit watching him run across the parking lot to see him going into the restaurant. He was super cute, and just what she has been expecting.
She walks into the restaurant to see his eyes meet hers. Time stops and for a second she couldn’t believe how amazing that he looks. Plaid button down, a perfect smile, and just amazing vibes all around. She walks as fast as she can and slides into the booth hoping that her body isn’t visible for too long.
“Oh my gosh, you are beautiful.” Hailey stares at him as her face goes bright red. She doesn’t know how to respond, because she hasn’t had someone say that in a very long time.
There are hundreds of compliments that she wants to give him, but she doesn’t want to make things weird. She scrambles to find something to keep her face going even redder. She finds a straw, but the thing is the size of two combined. The two start giggling about it, and like a gentleman he grabs his knife and shaves it down into the size of one.
Hailey can’t believe that he is single, and the two talk about all the things that they are interested in. She couldn’t help but admire his smile seems so genuine, his eyes always stays on her, and the way he talked was intelligent. He starts melting away her layers, but in the back of her mind Hailey tries remain guarded.
Kenji orders sushi for her son to go, and talks about some of his passions for stand up. The two chow down on food and everything’s going incredible. She looks at her phone see all the notifications, but for right now those people didn’t matter anymore. Hailey never had a good date where things didn’t go sour, but she felt like this is the man she has been looking for.
As the two finish up eating they look at the dark sky above. Tornado warnings sound in the area, and it just makes things just that much more fun! The two sit in the car giggling listening to some of his music. The rap took her by surprise, but it’s okay her country music would probably make his ears bleed.
The moment the two kiss, she feels like times stopped, and she finally felt like there is something finally happy. The continue to kiss in the car, but after little she pulls away not wanting to get too close. Everything is going perfect, but she knows she’s felt this way before. Suddenly two bicycles catch their attention as a cup goes flying across the parking lot.
“We need to go get it.”
“You’re serious?” He asks laughing
“Yeah, it’s bad juju if we don’t! I’ll get it.” As she pulls on the door handle she gently pushes the door, and realizes the door wouldn’t open.
“No no I’ll go, because if something happens like you get hit I’ll end up in your blog hahaha.” He says laughing as he hops out of the car. As he goes to get it her heart sinks cause she has so many feelings for him, but she doesn’t want to get hurt. As he runs back to the car Kenji gives two thumbs up laughing, and Hailey hopes enough for a second date.
The two look at the time, and realize it’s time for her podcast! Driving a couple feet across parking lot to borrow the Walmart Wifi. The two excitedly hop on for an hour, and for first time ever she opened her world up to someone. Podcasting was the one place that always made Hailey happy.
Time to time as Hailey did her thing she glanced over to Kenji who also seemed like he was having a great time. It meant the world to her she would be dating someone as passionate about these things as she is. Nothing could have been better.

As the podcast came to an end he gave her tight hug telling her how amazing she did. She forces a smile and tells him she knows that she didn’t do as well as she could have. Her heart hurt cause as much as she wanted to feel herself she still felt like a stranger. The two pulled up to her car and she bites her lip.
“I wish this didn’t have to end .” He says with heavy voice.
“Maybe we can do the riverfront?”
Kenji smiles as the two go towards the river as they continue to talk. The chemistry was intoxicating and Hailey started realize this is what a normal date and relationship is. It is something that she has been craving for so long, and she never realized it was going feel so incredible.
The two walk the riverfront and the bitter cold air brushed across their skin. The fountains were going, the rainbow bridge flowed bright, and Hailey pointed out just how incredible it would be for him bring his kids to the playground. As they get towards the end of the park Kenji gently elbows Hailey as shivers run up his spine.
“It’s cold, your shivering, why don’t we go back to the car?” Hailey looked at her arms and no goosebumps
She gets a heavy heart realizing no matter how perfect everything is that everything has to come to an end. The two drive back to the restaurant, he gives her kisses goodbye, and the two talked all the way home. She stayed on phone until her eyes couldn’t stay open anymore. She didn’t want to let him go, because she knew after date one there will be no more.

Hailey texted him the next day happy and eager, but the chemistry was different. Heavy heart and teary eyes she learns his ex wanted to work things out. She talked through the night with him doing her best to give him advice she knew others would give her. As she got off the phone she sits on her bed and she hangs her head low. Tears 😭 streaming down her face she had something so perfect, and now it’s no more. In her heart she opens things work out for them, but she can’t say she doesn’t want him anymore. Hailey continues her search in hopes that maybe there’s new doors, and who knows maybe there will be a day they run into each other again and become so much more.
